A Prayer of Memory and Hope
for UU South Shore Cluster Congregations
Sunday, September 11, 2005
Prepared by Juliana Lovell, Second Parish UU, Hingham,
and Rev. Dr. Jan Carlsson-Bull, First Parish UU, Cohasset
God of us all,
You who know the miracle of life and the mystery of death.
As we gather on this morning of memory.
we remember those whom we knew and lost.
We remember all who were lost.
On this morning of hope,
we remember that other morning that held the bluest of skies.
May we know that we cannot chart a course of certainty,
for life holds no such thing.
May we know that we cannot forge the river alone,
for the currents are too treacherous for loners.
May we reach out to one another
and the bruised hearts of our wounded world
with whatever love and compassion we hold,
so that healing might come.
As we gather on this morning of memory,
may we go forth with hope into the remainder of this day,
greeting one another,
making friends of neighbors,
and honoring those we have loved and lost
by seeking peace in our still hurting world
and discovering it in ourselves.
May we celebrate every possible moment of love,
give thanks for every possible time of happiness,
and be generous with our love and our happiness.
We pray in the name of memory.
We pray in the name of hope,
We pray in silence.
(Silent prayer)
We pray in the name of love.
Amen.
